Midnight Radio

Last Saturday night, we were looking up music videos on You Tube. I mentioned to my husband that I heard a song on the radio I liked and shockingly, I thought the DJ said it was by the Killers. I say shockingly, because I think the majority of bands that are popular now days all sound like whiny, emo crap. He begrudgingly agreed to sift through Killers songs to see if we could find the one I liked. After about 10 songs, with no luck, we were truly hating life. I was worried my husband might hurt himself, so I suggested cleansing our palates with a little taste of our favorite 80's Hair Bands. GNR, Bon Jovi and Poison came to our rescue and the minutes turned into hours.
*
I felt super tired and noticed how late it had gotten. I needed to go to bed, but was too wound up from the sweet tunes. I told Bear I needed to play something mellow, so I could go to sleep. He put on Jewel's Sweet Dreams from her Lullaby album. Right when it started playing, The Bean started kicking like crazy. I told Bear, these are strong enough you might be able to feel them. I grabbed his hand and put it on my belly. I expected the normal baby/possum trick, where all movement suddenly stops, but instead he gave his Dad a good kick. Bear jumped back and was speechless for a moment. It's weird, because up to this point nothing had made me tear up. Not hearing the heartbeat, or seeing the ultra sound, but for some reason having Bear feel the kicks too was extremely emotional for me. Maybe it was just the astounded look on his face, like my wife isn't just getting fat, there's something really in there.

I say The Bean was kicking, because he likes Jewel. Bear says he was kicking, because he was mad we cut off the righteous rock n roll. Either way, the kids got taste!

Not My Job

We had a little incident at work today. I glanced down one of the aisles and could see something laying on the floor. It looked rather odd. My coworker Logan was on the other side of the counter, so I asked him to identify it. He walked over, bent a little lower to examine it and then jumped away. With a horrified expression on his face, he announced, "It's Poo!" To which I responded, "Poo? No way! No one poos in a store and just walks away." To which he said, "I promise you, it's a big piece of poo." I asked, "Did someone have a dog in here?" "No." he said, "This is people poo." "I'm not cleaning it up." I said, "I can't. I'm pregnant. Pregnant women aren't supposed to clean up poo." He said, "I'm not cleaning it up. I'm just the computer guy." At this point, customers had gathered round, like it was some kind of traffic accident. Which in a way it was. Laughing hysterically, I finally said, "But you're a boy and poos gross." Needless to say, with plastic gloves, gobs of paper towels and much gagging, he conceded. Thank you Logan and thank you baby. This will probably be the only time having a baby gets me OUT of cleaning up poo.

Bump Day

Hump Day celebrates making it to the middle of the week. Well, I'm celebrating Bump Day, a.k.a. making it to the middle of my pregnancy. Grab your shot glasses and fill them with water. Cheers to 20 weeks down and 20 to go!
*
As of about two weeks ago, my appetite went into overdrive. Food still sounds yicky, but I need to eat it all the time. It's a conundrum. The one positive of the appetite increase... I'm finally showing. Here's the long awaited Belly Pics.

And for those of you like me who prefer skin shots... ta da!

You can kind of see that my innie is already trying to become an outie. I thought that wasn't supposed to happen till eight months or so. At my last doctors appointment, I mentioned to my doctor that since I was 5'6" (a tad taller than the average woman) I should be able to carry the baby pretty well. He was a little too cheery when he informed me it doesn't matter how short or tall you are, it matters how long your torso is and I happen to have a very short torso. According to him, I have nowhere to go but out, out, out. Awesome! Look forward to bigger and better shots in the very near future.

Pretty Good For 3:00 am

I got a call late Saturday night. It was my little brother wondering what I'd be doing at 3:00 am. He and his girlfriend would be driving through Salt Lake on their way home to Missouri. Well, normally I am a very responsible pregnant lady and get to bed by 2:00 am, but I figured I could make an exception for Luke and Kristy. We had such a fun visit. Kristy was very sweet and the best part about her, she makes my brother Luke sweeter too. A feat I thought was near impossible. I tried to get them to stay the night (Washington-Missouri straight through... who does that?) but they were determined to get back on the road. Luckily we had some energy drinks in our food storage for just this purpose.

Switching subjects, does anyone have any tips on how to fix this tear in my couch? It is brand new to us and was in perfect condition, until it met up with our door jam on its way into the apartment.

It has been Noodle approved. Therefore, we'd like to keep it in as good shape as possible.

Kick-Start

On Saturday I was sitting at my computer. My cat, who is not typically a cuddler, jumped up on my lap and plopped down on my belly. (All 20 lbs. of him.) I'm not sure if this surprised The Bean, or if he thought it was funny, but I received six quick kicks to the center of my stomach! This made me laugh pretty hard and for that I got three more kicks. Up till then, I had felt tiny movements that I thought might possibly be the baby, but I was waiting for something more definitive. Thanks Noodle and I hope this isn't the beginnings of sibling rivalry.

It's Official

Nothing has fallen off, or magically disappeared between our 14 week sneak peak and our 19 week official ultra sound. The Bean is still a boy bean and Dr. Yamishiro's record is still in tact. See below for photographic evidence.

The ultra sound doctor said it can only mean one thing when a baby is flashing the camera this blatantly... He wants to make sure I don't buy him anything pink!!! For those of you who like me are ultra sound impaired, the long white things on the left and right are legs and the shorter (but by no means small) thing in the middle is a... well you know.

Not only do we have an exhibitionist, we have a thumb-sucker! I about died of cuteness overload watching his chin go up and down as he sucked on his thumb. Finally, something I could actually see clearly. The great news is all his measurements came out right on target. Not too big, not too small, but just right. Would you expect anything less from Baby Bear?

Action Packed

I love when my best friends decide to vacation in Utah!!! Lindsay and her family rolled in to town last Wednesday and I did not have a moments rest till they rolled out again on Sunday. Normally, no rest makes me cranky, but I was having too much fun to mind my sleep-deprived dementia. We were having such a good time, we forgot to take pictures, so we grabbed this beautiful shot at 3:00 am on Sunday morn. I love it so much. I want to blow it up to poster size and have it be the first thing you see when you come to my house. (I think I still might have a bit of that dementia???)
*
Since I'm suffering from severe photo shortage, I'll tell you some important things I learned from this vacation.
*
When the baby books say pregnancy makes you more sensitive to the sun, I should not assume they don't mean me.
*
The itchy, peely part of sunburns is worse than the burning fire part and lasts longer... but both suck.
*
You can get a 2 month old to pose for a portrait. It just takes patience I have not yet acquired.
*
Even the sissy rides at Lagoon and Seven Peaks seem like extreme sports when you're pregnant. Go adrenaline!
*
I'm not very good at making fish faces. See above photo for evidence.
*
I miss my girls like crazy... really to the point it hurts sometimes. I already knew this before Lindsay's trip, but it reminded me all over again. Oh Linds... I Heart You!
